"Macrobrachium oxyphilus is only known from the north Selangor peat swamp forest, Peninsular Malaysia. The species lives in acidic waters in a peat swamp. In 2003 the peat swamp had been almost completely converted to oil palm plantations, and surveys failed to find the species. Further surveys are urgently required to see if the species and habitat still exist. The species is not likely to be found elsewhere as the habitat is very unique."
