A THANATOCENOSIS OF BECHSTEIN’S BAT MYOTIS BECHSTEINII (KUHL, 1818) INTERMEDIUS, RYBÁ 1976 DISCOVERED IN MAYENNE - SCIENCES’CAVE (THORIGNÉ-EN-CHARNIE, MAYENNE, FRANCE)

A thanatocenosis bat found in Mayenne-Sciences’cave (Mayenne, France) has been studied. All the remains belong to the chrono-species Myotis b. intermedius, and represent the first documented occurence in France. Te dating of the bones, 5940 +/- 45 BP, is in accordance with the period of occurence known for this subspecies. Besides, the presence of these subfossil deposits on the ground tends to prove that human beings were not able to get inside the cave from this period onwards, until the discovery of the entrance of the cave in 1967.
