Justification: This species is endemic to the Seychelles island of Mahe where it has only been recorded from Morne Blanc.
This species is known from only one site which has become highly degraded by invasive plant species since M. crassipalpum was last collected in 1972. It has an estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 5 km2 but recent surveys have failed to relocate the species and therefore, it may be extinct. Any surviving populations will be threatened by habitat deterioration caused by to the effects of invasive plant species, especially the tree Cinnamomum verum. This species is assessed as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct).
