Since some time I have also a flickr-acount, with many photos of recently extinct animals. I know there are many other such photos at flickr, and the registration is very easy, so you could also join. Then we could make a flickr-group with a huge archive of extinct animals from all over the world. It could be public or with invitations, to benefit from the photos of as many people as possible. This would have the further benefit that the photos would be "safer" than in this forum here.

Are there no opinions about a flickr-group? I would start one myself if nobody has interest in it.

Hi ! Before I start with Flickr, I need an Yahoo! account. Is this yahoo! account for free ? If so, I will create one for me, and then join Your Flickr group to.

Yes, that´s because I still created no group, because I wanted to know your opinions about it before. I think it would be best to create a public group with invitations, to controll better what pictures can be added and which not. But on the other site a normal public group could help to get more photos. So what do you think about`it? Another thing is the name of the group. I would suggest "extinct animals" or "recently extinct animals", because many people use this to search or title things about animals which became extinct by humans. If anybody has a better suggestions, please tell me. I would say it should include more or less the same things we discuss in the holocene extinction boards, that means all animals which became extinct during the holocene, or perhaps better during the last 5000 years or so. It should include photos from museums (stuffed animals, bones, fossils, reconstructions, pictures), self-made artwork and other intersting stuff.

Oh my, I'm going old - faster and faster ! I thought this was sebbe's idea, but it was You, sordes. Anyway, I agree with the name, and also with the 5000 years, but I have no idea what the difference between a public group and a normal public group may be, so I just leave this in Your opinion.

There are three types of groups, public groups, where everybody can join, and everybody can see the photos, public galleries with invitations, i.e. everybody can see the photos, but you need an invitation to join the group and add photos. The third one are groups which are private, where only members can see the photos, but I think is would be not good. To get the biggest benefit (also most interesting pictures) a completely public group would be most sensefull I think. Another idea would be to create several groups, one for extinct mammals, one for extinct birds and one for other extinct animals.

Okay, I created a new flickr-group with the name "Extinct Animals". I already loaded many photos up, and hope you will soon add some more. If you join the group, I can make you to moderatores, as I already know how familiar you are with the topic. Here you can find the group: flickr.com/groups As there is an "@" in the URL of the site, I can´t give you a direct link, so you have to search for "extinct animals".

All right noisi, you´re now a "collector" that means a moderator. Normal members are "hunters", moderatores are "collectors" and the administrator is the "curator".
