This species is endemic to the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands (Spain) where it inhabits a small area in the northeast at medium to high elevations. The area of occupancy (AOO) is estimated to be c.8 km2, and whilst the actual extent of occurrence is more restricted, the EOO given as 8 km2 to equal the AOO. Given the present lack of data about population size and trend and threats, the species is assessed as Data Deficient (DD). However, the species should be reassessed if more information about it becomes available, and given its restricted range, if any direct threats are identified the species may qualify for a threatened category.
