Melanopsis germaini is restricted to the type locality, i.e. the small coastal river Nahr Zenne (or Nahr Sana, Nahr as Sinnah or نهر السن, نهر السنة) and the nearby Nahr as Zeirud (or Nahr az Zayrud or نهر الزيرود), situated between the towns of Baniyas and Jableh (Syria).
Nothing is known about the status of the present populations, the last specimens in collections dating from 1955 (Heller et al. 2005).
