Melanopsis infracincta is only known from headwaters of karstic spring-complexes of two tributaries of the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria, namely the Ras el 'Ain spring-complex at the head of the Khabur River (type locality), the 'Ayn al-'Arus spring at the head of the Balikh River and from a spring or its outflow at Tell Abiad, about 10 km northeast of 'Ayn al-'Arus. The latter two localities are considered as one, being two points situated in the uppermost 10 km stretch of the Balikh River in Turkey.
No population information is available. Material existing in museum collections predate the 1940s. Surveys at the sites in the last 20 years have failed to locate the species.
