"An unidentified animal howl recorded in the Okuchichibu mountains bears a strong resemblance to a wolf howl, according to an analysis of audio samples provided by Hiroshi Yagi, an independent researcher who has been working to prove the existence of the officially extinct Japanese wolf. The howl was caught in a video clip from one of the 70 or so motion-sensitive infrared cameras Yagi and his nonprofit organization have set up in a mountainous area bordering Tokyo and Saitama, Yamanashi and Gunma prefectures. The footage, captured on the morning of Oct. 21 last year and retrieved the following month, shows three deer running toward the camera, followed by a howl." www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2019/09/13/environment/debate-japans-extinct-wolf-grows/

Possible photo of a Japanese Wolf from a unknown date.
Possible Japanese Wolf bred at Yano Traveling Zoo during the Meiji period 1902. It could also be a Mongolian Wolf that it's parents were imported from from Korea. ameblo.jp/wa500/entry-10774355152.html

Possible photo of a Japanese Wolf from a unknown date. The photo was taken in 1908 when a wolf was captured in Mount Ōdaigahara in Mie Prefecture. This blog mentions that the Honshu Wolf were still surviving after the last wolf was captured in Nara Prefecture in 1905.
