1984 Print Extinct Laysan Rail Sora Birds J F Lansdowne This is an original 1984 color print of four rails: the Laysan Rail (top left), a flightless bird, now extinct; the Paintbilled Crake (upper right), found in South America from Venezuela to Argentina; the Whitenecked Crake (lower left) found in freshwater swamps from Trinidad to Argentina; and the Sora (lower right), breeds in the marshes of northern and central North America and winters from the southern United States to South America. Original being sold at ebay

The flightless Laysan rail, Porzanula palmeri, once lived in moderate numbers (about 2,000 recorded there in 1891) on Laysan. It became extinct when rabbits were released on the island. Great article. There are photos of the Laysan rail that are not even in Fuller's Lost Animals.
