GHSH. No recent records, one historical record last observed in 1958. Presumed extinct when genus was listed endangered by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. More information needed for HHP to rank as extinct. Likely extinct (Hawaii Biological Survey web site http:/hbs.bishopmuseum.org/endangered/ext-snails.html, updated 9 February 1997).
Historically found from Kalauao to Halawa, a distance of four miles. Found at relatively low elevations in the wet forest. This species was originally described Halawa, Oahu, Hawaiian Islands (Johnson, 1996). This species occurs in the Koolau Mountains on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu (Severns, 2011).
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, (2011a). Oahu tree snails (Achatinella spp.) 5-Year Review.
In the 1992 recovery plan for the O`ahu tree snails of the genus Achatinella, A. juddii was classified as having the status of probably extinct. Achatinella juddii was historically located on the leeward slopes of the central Ko`olau Mountains. The most recent sighting of A. juddii was in 1958 at Pu`u Uau (USFWS 1992).
