Habitat and Ecology This species was found in clumps of Freycinetia and shrubs (Pearce-Kelly et al. 1994).
Threats P. aurantia has been Extinct in the Wild since 1987 due to predation by Euglandina following its introduction in 1977. Since then, the species has become Extinct (Pearce-Kelly et al. 1994).

Partula aurantia was endemic to Moorea in the Society Islands (French Polynesia). The carnivorous Rosy Wolf Snail (Euglandina rosea) was introduced onto the island in 1977 and had an immediate disastrous impact on P. aurantia. This was the first Partula species to become Extinct as a result of this predation. No live individuals of Partula aurantia were found during the intensive surveys of the 1980s or in 2005.

Extinct in the wild: The precarious state of Earth’s most threatened group of species.

Endemic to Moorea, Society Islands. As is the case for the other Partula species covered by this study, this species was collected into ex situ care prior to extirpation from the wild following introduction of E. rosea. The last individual died in ex situ care in 1991.
