Taxonomic Comments: Hershler and Frest (1996) recognize this species as distinct from a larger undescribed form from the Willamette River, and distinct from one or more forms found elsewhere in Washington and Oregon. These forms have frequently been confused with F. NUTTALLIANUS. Rounded Global Status: G1 - Critically Imperiled Reasons: Could be extinct; 1991 and 1994 surveys in the vicinity of Willamette Falls failed to find any specimens (Hershler and Frest 1996); former habitat is now highly industrialized. Global Range Comments: Once thought to inhabit the entire Columbia valley, but as revised by Hershler and Frest (1996), only found in lowermost Willamette River, and possibly lower Columbia River below Portland, Oregon. www.natureserve.org/
