Some years ago. I can't remember how many. 7-8, 10, maybe even 15 years ago there was something in the news about a forearm of an unknown pleistocene carnivore having turned up from the Siberian permafrost. On TV you could see serious men in white coats standing around the furry brown slender limb on an operation table. Never had they seen anything like it. Of course it was a hoax, a joke or a misunderstanding or I would have heard more about it or been able to find out about it through the oracle known as Google. But what was it really? Does anyone remember this? By the way I'm also a bit interested in well done hoaxes and fakes like the Piltdown skull, van Meegeren's paintings, Becker's coins and the City of Light (possibly, yeah likely) and so on and that's the reason for a question that might seem a bit pointless - Cheers!

It was probably a dog - Strange that noone here remembers it though. It was fascinating for a day. Dwarf amphicyon survived until 11 000 years ago -
