Hyposmocoma swezeyi
family: Cosmopterigidae
from the island of O'ahu / Hawai'i Islands
"The extreme degree of ecological specialization and restricted ranges make Hyposmocoma very vulnerable to habitat loss and extinction. Undoubtedly, prior habitat alteration and development in Hawaii have extirpated many species, particularly on the coast and lowland areas, if the limited ranges and specialized habits of the extant species are any indication. For example Hyposmocoma swezeyi (Busck, 1914) was collected in an area which has become a heavily urbanized district of the citiy of Honolulu, and the species can now be considered extinct."
