As a Swede (not been living there for a long time admittedly) it is with great sadness to read about the continuing reverse of wildlife conservation in Sweden. It is tragic to see that a loud minority (i.e. hunting organizations/Sami people) is having such an impact on the decision making when it comes to wildlife conservation. The highly controversial wolf cull for the last few years just proves that politicians in Sweden are willing to agree on about just anything to please the hunting establishment. secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/Stop_the_slaughtering_of_Swedens_wild_animals/?amNTdcb

It needs to be made known that the Swedish government has the possibly worst "conservation policy" concerning carnivores in the world. Most likely not many people realize this and thinks that Sweden is pretty much civilized in these matters. A new proposition puts low limits on the wolf, the brown bear, the lynx, the wolverine and the golden eagle. If ever put into practice it will mean slaughter of Sweden's carnivores. For instance 170-270 wolves are proposed to be the limit of that population as opposed to the about 350 extant today.
Suppose some latin american country decided to kill off about 100 of their remaining 300 jaguars. It would be a scandal wouldn't it?
I'm a Swede too by the way.
