This species was described in 1983 from specimens collected on Tutuila and 'Upolu / Samoa, which, in fact differ markedly from each other, but the author was unable to describe distinct subspecies (which he actually did in other species) because there are to few specimens.
The population from 'Upolu is now extinct.
