I'm learning russian and my teacher told various things, incluind about the similarities between the etruscan and russian language and that the meaning of the term etruscan, as well Rus' (from which was derived the term Russia), is leopard. What do they think about that?? I know that the leopard makes a great presence in the etruscan art (as in the Tomb of Leopards), but how they know about those animals?? They existed in Italy in the early Holocene??

I am from Russia. There are no similarities between Russian and Etruscan languages, and the term "leopard" is not included by linguists in the list of possible meanings of the word Rus'. Moreover, the term Rus' appeared after many centuries after the death of the Etruscan civilization. Discussion about the similarity of that names is only a non-linguistic speculation.

Is the Etruscuan language known at all? I thought it's one of those many lost languages no one knows and no one speaks.

You're right Noisi, but Etruscan words that known are not related to Russian or another Slavic analogues, even distantly.

Etruscan language is exist. It's scientific (latin) language or words. From etruscan culture, is own scripts written this scientific (latin) language. Their culture does disappear, but their language not. Because according to written sources, been preserved and found their scripts. Further evidenced by the fact, that many etruscan (Latin) words were transferred to a the Italian dictionary.
Today is a scientific (latin) language. also called as dead language. What we also confirmed by history.

No, sorry Bhagiratri, but you're completely wrong. The Etruscan language doesn't exist any longer and little is known of it apart from what we have been able to decipher due to bilingual inscriptions. It's very difficult to go further since Etruscan was not a Indo-European language and therefore not related to Latin. The only remaining European language from before the arrival of the Indo-European and the Finno-Ugric langauages is Basque and a few hundred years ago there was also Aquitanian which was closely related to Basque. More could have been known had the Etruscan-Latin dictionary compiled by the emperor Claudius somehow survived. Etruscan language is exist. It's scientific (latin) language or words. From etruscan culture, is own scripts written this scientific (latin) language. Their culture does disappear, but their language not. Dear discussants. As this thread is going completely offtopic I've decided to rename it into Etruscan language and move it to the off topic section. If you want to discuss about the leopards please keep apart the topics.
