Fiwo Tree-kangaroo Dendrolagus scottae subsp. nov: in March 1990 a new population of D. scottae was discovered by Timothy Flannery on Mt. Menawa in the Bewani Mts, North Coastal Range, Sandaun (West Sepik) Province, extreme NW PNG. This population is restricted to the upper slopes of Mt Menawa, with documented records from mossy montane forests between 1,500 m and ca. 2,000 m asl. (Flannery, 1996). Individuals from Mt Menawa are considerably smaller than those from the close-by Torricelli Mts. This population is still only known from five museum specimens, only one specimen with a skull in good condition, the taxonomic position of the Mt. Menawa population has remained uncertain (Flannery, 1995a; 1996). Recent research has shown that it is best treated as a subspecies of D. scottae (M. Eldridge in pers. comm to K. Walters). Description is in prep (see also entry in Tree Kangaroos. A Curious Natural History by Flannery et al., 1996)
Salawati Brown Dorcopsis Dorcopsis muelleri subsp. nov: an undescribed subspecies endemic to Salawati in the Raja Ampat Archipelago, West Papua, Indonesia (Groves & Flannery, 1989). A formal description of this subspecies has not been possible until recently due to the small sample size available in museum collections (five juvenile specimens in two collections). Tim Flannery collected additional specimens during fieldwork on northern Salawati in October 1992 and these specimens were under study for some time (Flannery, 1995b). In 2008 a team of biologists from the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (Java, Indonesia) collected further specimens from Salawati I., but a formal description have yet to appear. However, the recent fieldwork have resulted in the description of two new species of Strongyloidea parasites (Dorcopsistrongylus ewini, Dorcopsistrongylus salawatiensis) and two new species of Cloacininae parasites (Labiosimplex papuensis, Labiomultiplex sagawinensis) from the stomach of D. muelleri (Purwaningsih & Smales, 2010, 2011).
Dorcopsulus sp. nov: an undescribed species endemic found at higher altitudes in the the Foja Mts, Papua Province, Indonesia. It was initially believed to represent an undescribed Dorcopsis wallaby related to D. muelleri (Beehler, 2008), but is now known to represent an undescribed species of the Genus Dorcopsulus. According to Kristofer Helgen of the Smithsonian Institute it may be the smallest member in the macropod family. The discovery of this new species was first announced in the June 2010 Issue of National Geographic (White, 2010). Description is in prep
Alpine Striped Bandicoot Microperoryctes sp. nov: an undescribed species found at higher altitudes in the Snow Mts, Papua Province, Indonesia (Helgen, 2007ab). Description is in prep

Karimui Cuscus Phalanger sp: the taxonomic position of the Phalanger cuscuses found in the Mount Karimui area, Chimbu Province, PNG is in need of clarification. Menzies & Pernetta (1986) described P. permixtio based on 7 specimens, an adult male (UP (RH) 2029) collected by J. C. Pernetta at an elevation of about 1,400 m in the Karimui region, an adult male (PM14288) collected in the Trauna Valley at an elevation of 1,200 m, a young male (PM20553) collected from the Trauna Valley, a female and male (PM14356, PM20560., skins only) from the Baiyer River Sanctuary, a male collected from the Kratke Mts (BMNH 50.1290) as well as an female (BPBM60023) collected from Kassam. The Latin noun permixtio meaning a mixture or confusion and refers to the absence of any single diagnostic feature and consequent confusion of characters in this species. It has subsequently been treated as a synonym of P. vestitus (Flannery, 1990a; Flannery & Seri, 1990; Flannery & Schouten, 1994; Kennedy, 1996; Nowak, 1999). Menzies (1991) chose to maintain P. permixtio as a full species. Flannery & Schouten (1994) recognized the Karimui Cuscus, an undescribed species only known from an adult male (AM M13870) and a sub-adult male (weighing 610g) collected by Ken Aplin on 6 May, 1984 at elevations of 1,150-1,200 m on Mt. Karimui. Although the known specimens of the Karimui Cuscus could be readily distinguished, and it is biochemically different, there remains a possibility that it is a subspecies of the Eastern Common Cuscus P. intercastellanus. Electrophoresis of enzymes has showed that it is very different from both the Eastern Common Cuscus P. intercastellanus and Northern Common Cuscus P. orientalis. According to Groves (2005) two undescribed species, related to P. orientalis, occur on Mt. Karimui. The four widely separated subpopulations of Phalanger vestitus are distinctive and its taxonomy needs to be re-evaluated (Leary et al. in litt 2008). According to Menzies (2011) the Karimui Cuscus recognized by Flannery & Schouten (1994) appears very similar, if not identical with P. permixtio, but admitting that further research is required.

It is also known from Sawetau in the Muller Range, Southern Highlands Province where two adult specimens were collected in September 2009. This is a nocturnal species and genetic analysis carried out after a Rapid Biological Assessment of the upper Strickland Basin finally proved the distinctness of these populations from all others (Bergen, 2010; Aplin & Kale, 2011).
D'Entrecasteaux Glider Petaurus brevipes subsp nov: an undescribed subspecies found on Goodenough, Fergusson and Normanby in the D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago, PNG. The taxonomic position of the D'Entrecasteaux Glider is yet to be determinated, for the time being it is best treated as a subspecies of Petaurus brevipes.

Melomys sp. nov: an undescribed species known from an adult male collected on 11th April 2009 at 859m in the Nakanai Mts, East New Britain in the Bismarck Archipelago, PNG. Genetic analysis performed by Litticia Bryant of the Queensland University of Technology suggests that this species is most closely related to M. rufescens but differs from this species in its larger size (Aplin & Opiang, 2011). It remains uncertain at this point whatever or not this undescribed species has been collected on New Britain previously. On 22 January 1959 Margaret Gilliard collected a skull (AMNH 194397) at an elevation of 750 m, in a locality to the northeast of Kandrian. Flannery (1995b) referred this specimen M.cf. levipes and acknowledged that further material was necessary in order to resolve the identity of this species.
