Justification: This species was widely distributed but uncommon in 1908 when it was recorded on Mahe, Silhouette, Praslin and Felicite islands. In 1974 a population was discovered on Grande Soeur. Since then searches of the recorded localities and potentially suitable habitat (potential area of occupancy is estimated at 5 km2) have failed to record any surviving populations. The habitats on the islands have been seriously degraded since 1908 by invasive species, especially the tree Cinnamomum verum, which has probably caused its decline. This species may be extinct but any surviving populations will remain threatened by this factor. This species is assessed as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct). www.iucnredlist.org/species/196126/2442730
