Wetmore.--Two bones of Vol. 55] 1938 J WETMORE, Bird Remains from the West Indies 55 this extinct species come from depths of between a quarter and a half meter. An ulna is slightly larger and more robust than that bone in Oreopdeia montana, measuring 43.3 mm. in total length. A complete tibiotarsus, while preserving the slender, elongated form of the modern species, montana, is distinctly larger. It measures as follows: total length, 58.5; transverse breadth of distal end, 6.0; transverse breadth of shaft near center, 2.9 mm. Right and left humeri were obtained in the oldest levels, in the crab culture, one perfect and the other nearly so. They measure as follows: total length, 36.9, 37.3; transverse breadth through head, 13.0, 13.0; transverse breadth of distal end, 9.3, 9.3; transverse breadth of shaft at center, 4.4, 4.8 min. The additional record of this species, known only from bones obtained in cavern and midden deposits, is of importance. elibrary.unm.edu/sora/Auk/v055n01/p0051-p0055.pdf

An Additional Itccord for the Extinct Porto Rican Quail-Dove.--In a small collection of animal bones taken by Mr. Rafael Vidal from a kitchen midden site at what is called the "Mesa" hill near Mayagiiez, Porto Rico, is a left metatarsus of Oreopeleia larva Wetmore, a Quail-dove des- cribed originally (Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, vol. 33, Dec. 30, 1920. p. 79) from cavern deposits near Morovfs and Utuado. The present speci- men is in a perfect state of preservation, better in fact than the metatarsus used as the type of the species, and agrees with other specimens in form. It has the following measurements: Total length 37.3 mm., smallest transverse diameter of shaft 2.7 mm., breadth of head 11.6 mm., breadth across trochlea 6.7 mm., depth through talon 6.2 mm. It is slightly shorter than four others from cave deposits which in length range 38.0 to 39.5 ram. As Utuado and Morovfs are both near the central part of the island the present find at Mayagiiez near the west coast records the species at an entirely new locality. Other bird bones associated with O. larva at the new site represent the Green Heron (Butorides virescens) and Scaled Pigeon (Patagi•nas squamosa). Further material from these deposits will be awaited with interest.--A•,Exx•)ra WgT•oaz, U.S. Biological' Survey, Washington, D.C. elibrary.unm.edu/sora/Auk/v040n02/p0324-p0324.pdf
