Teratornis olsoni Arredondo & Arredondo Syn: Teratornis olsoni Arredondo & Arredondo 1999 [2002b], Poeyana. 470-475, p.16. Distribution: Paredones Cave, Caimito, La Habana; Túnel Cave, La Salud, La Habana; Blancas Caves, Quivicán, La Habana; Sandoval Cave, Caimito, La Habana (Arredondo & Arredondo [2002b]). Teratornithidae L. Miller (1909), is the only fossil family recorded in Cuba (Suárez & Arredondo 1997, Arredondo & Arredondo [2002b]), shared with both North and South America (Campbell & Tonni 1980). This family originated in South America (Campbell & Tonni 1980, 1981, 1983), and colonized North America during the Pliocene (Campbell & Tonni 1980, Emslie 1988). The genus Teratornis L. Miller (1909) is only found in fossil deposits in North America, including Florida, possible origin of the ancestor of T. olsoni Arredondo & Arredondo (2002b) the Cuban extinct species. Teratornis olsoni Arredondo & Arredondo - Holotype: Right femur (CZACC 400-649) Arredondo & Arredondo (2002). Paredones Cave, La Habana, Cuba. Source: Biogeography of the fossil birds of Cuba (W. Another form, " Teratornis" olsoni, was described from the Pleistocene of Cuba, but its exact affinities are not completely resolved; it might not be a teratorn at all. There are also undescribed fossils from southwestern Ecuador, but apart from these forms, teratorns were restricted to North America (Campbell & Tonni, 1983). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teratornithidae
